Anti-Epidemic Measures to be Extended for Mass Events and Catering Establishments Starting Thursday

The Ministry of Health is imposing further anti-epidemic measures in relation to the worsening epidemiological situation in the Czech Republic. As of Thursday, 24 September, the Ministry will restrict the opening hours of catering establishments from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and regulate the holding of mass events. The effect of the measures is limited to 14 days, meaning they will end on 7 October.

“The anti-epidemic measures are an absolutely crucial element in improving the development of the current epidemiological situation. Therefore, it is essential for the public to responsibly observe the stipulated regulations, despite the inconvenience. I strongly urge the public to refrain from attending mass events. It’s the only way to stop the spread of the virus,” said Minister of Health Roman Prymula.

Effective from 24 September, the limit for mass events held at facilities divided into sectors is reduced to 1,000 persons if the event is indoors and to 2,000 persons if the event is outdoors. However, the limit of 500 persons indoors and 1,000 persons outdoors still applies to other events where sectors are not possible. This number does not include persons who participate in organising the mass event, if they are separated from the attendees. However, the event can only be held with more than 10 persons indoors and 50 persons outdoors if each person has a seat, in which they largely remain present. An exemption applies to meetings of constitutional bodies, courts, exhibitions or markets and trade fairs. If the person leaves their seat, they must maintain a distance of two meters from others.

Closing hours from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. are imposed on catering establishments. It also applies that only the number of people for whom seating is available can enter the establishment. Customers are seated so that there is a distance of a least 1.5 meters between them, except for customers sitting at one table. In the case of take-away food or beverages with subsequent consumption on the spot, a distance of at least two meters from others must be maintained, except for household members.
